CHANNELING MY INNER JOANNA

Who doesn't love to cozy up with a warm throw, a hot cup of coffee and throw on the latest episode of Fixer Upper? After binge watching too many episodes too count I finally decided I had to have shiplap somewhere, anywhere. So after a quick text to the hubby (informing him), who was out of town on a Bachelor party (payback), I set out to find a contractor to get the job done. I mean, I contemplated the whole DIY for a quick minute until I realized that although I may have the vision, I have no business operating a nail gun, that is just dangerous. I was asked all these different questions on the type of wood I want, the plank size, finished, unfinished, putty the nail holes, leave as is,  horizontal, vertical... insert head spin. I started scouring pinterest and blogs to find the look I thought would fit my space the best and guys, the options are endless and there is so many awesome ideas for shiplap! Hours of serious contemplation later I knew I wanted white to lighten my space, horizontal for the more traditional look, unfinished edges for a touch of rustic, and wood putty to fill in the nail holes for a finished look. Jordan Holland, of Pine and Cloth (linked below), carried out the woodwork and I'm here to tell you, he didn't disappoint. He was precise, managed his time well, reasonable, friendly, trustworthy, and darn good at what he does! My husband and I decided we would paint ourselves, it was the perfect day date (insert serious sarcasm). My appreciation for painters increased ten-fold, it is tedious and tiring but we were pretty pumped that we challenged ourselves and accomplished. We used the Killz primer (Chip's go to) first, then 2 coats of Sherwin Williams Extra White, semi-gloss paint to finish. Like magic, I felt a little more Joanna-ish, it added texture, warmth, depth and character to our living room. An inexpensive way to customize any space? Yes please!  If you are contemplating shiplap, I'm here to tell you, do it, and don't hesitate to ask me any questions. You will never regret bringing a taste of "Fixer Upper" to your own home!
